Facelifts and necklifts
Gravity, sun exposure and environmental pollutants cause the elastic fibers of the skin to lose elasticity over time. The result is usually unwanted loosening of the skin on the face and neck.
How is a facelift performed
The surgeon makes small incisions, separates the facial skin from the underlying fat and muscles, removes fat in order to shape the facial contours, firms the facial and neck muscles, firms the skin and removes excess structures (excess skin), then stitches the incision. The result is a firmer face with tighter, softer skin. All incisions are usually placed so that they are almost invisible after healing. The exact direction of the scars and the right method for you will depend on your facial structure and the results you desire from the operation.
For example, in a thorough consultation, your doctor may inform you about:
-Firming the forehead by lifting the eyebrows and smoothing wrinkles on the brow,
- Lifting at the temples to firm the eye area
- Lifting in the cheek area, firming the neck
- Firming the neck by removing fat from the chin.
Refrain from eating or drinking for six hours prior to the operation. The operation itself takes place under local anesthesia and general semi-anesthesia and takes between two to five hours. The patient must refrain smoking under all circumstances before and after the surgery, and avoid blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Aspro, ThromboASS, Thomapyrin, etc.
What happens after the procedure
After the operation, the patient will wear a fitted bandage and a drainage device for extracting secretions from the wound until the following day. After approximately two days, the bandages can be removed and the patient’s hair may be washed at a hair salon. Some of the sutures will be removed after 6 days. The next check-up takes place one week later. The remaining stitches or braces are removed at this time. Patients experiencing intensive swelling will receive lymph drainage and gentle massage on site. Avoid the sauna, steam bath, sun exposure, athletic activity and hair coloring under all circumstances.

It takes approximately three months to obtain an assessment of the final results of the operation. The facelift can be combined with other facial procedures such as corrective eyelid surgery or lip wrinkle dermabrasion.
As with all operations, there are certainly a number of specific risks that will be addressed in detail during your consultation.
