Mini facelift

Gravity, sun exposure and environmental pollutants can cause the elastic fibers in the skin to lose elasticity over time. This usually results in undesired loosening of the facial skin. For patients experiencing loosening of the skin in the cheek area, but not on the neck, a mini facelift is recommended.

The English expression “facelift” describes the core of a properly performed operation far better than the German term Gesichtsstraffung (roughly: facial tightening). New elasticity is one goal of the operation; however, the concept of „lifting“ more accurately describes the actual process. In a facelift, the surface of the neck and cheek muscles which have become loosened with age are elastically shortened; the excess skin is removed and the loose contour is tightened and attached behind the ear. No visible scarring takes place.

Do not eat or drink for six hours prior to the operation. The operation itself takes place under local anaesthesia and takes two to five hours. Before and after the operation, the patient must refrain from smoking and avoid taking certain medications which thin the blood (Aspirin, Aspro, ThromboASS, Thomapyrin, etc.).

After the operation, the patient will wear a fitted bandage and a drainage device for extracting secretions from the wound until the following day. After approximately five days, the bandages can be removed and the patient’s hair may be washed at a hair salon. Some of the sutures will be removed. The next check-up takes place one week later. The remaining stitches are removed at this time.

Patients experiencing intensive swelling will receive lymph drainage and gentle massage on site. We also recommend anti-inflammatory medications such as Wobenzym three to five times daily. Patients must refrain from visiting the sauna or steam room and may only be exposed to sunlight with strong sun protection.

 

Results

After only approximately two weeks, you will be able to show your face to strangers, and after two weeks you will feel well enough to go out with friends.

The mini facelift can be combined with other facial procedures such as corrective eyelid surgery or lip wrinkle removal.

As with all operations, there are certainly a number of specific risks that will be addressed in detail during your consultation.
